Taiwan International Orchid Show 2013

Flowers have given a lot of inspiration to people from all walks of life, whether they are scientists, botanists, florists, gardeners or painters and writers. For centuries, the orchid has been a symbol of love, luxury and beauty. They are exotic and mysterious flowers that have captured the hearts of many people the world over. The orchid is among the 15 most beautiful flowers in the world. They have always had a unique place in ethnic Chinese culture.

Generally orchids are found in tropical or subtropical areas with high humidity, high rainfall and slightly acidic soil. Taiwan belongs to sub-tropical climate zone in the north part, while the south part belongs to the tropical climate zone. Taiwan is deemed one of the world’s most important venues for orchid growing. Taiwan has many original species, plus more than one hundred years of orchid growing and twenty some years of industry development that fosters an environment where contribute to Taiwan’s diversified orchid species. Now that Taiwan is an export-oriented industry that ranked among important orchid supply markets in the world. This is the reason for to hold Taiwan International Orchid Show (TIOS). This show has been held since 2007 in Tainan County, Taiwan. TIOS 2013 is scheduled was hold on March 9~18, 2013 at Taiwan Orchid Plantation (T.O.P.), Tainan. Taiwan International Orchid Show is one of the orchid professional shows in the world. The decoration in this show is very interesting and very beautiful. The atmosphere in the inside likes a garden has an assortment of orchids are blooming. Many kind of orchid was showed with different color, species, and place origin. It will give ideas of how to make garden one of a kind, one's home cozy and beautiful. Here, one will find rare kinds of plants, pot, ornamental and blossoming flowers, shrubs and seeding, as well as accessories for them. Theme TIOS this year is BLOOM 2013.

At present, Taiwan's orchid industry is focus in the technological production, breeding, research and development, and disease prevention. The establishment of Taiwan Orchid Plantation (TOP) combines industrial basis and biological science and technology talent. TOP organizes orchid productions, breeding, trading, exhibitions, research and development, the promotion of multi-functional orchid plantation. In this exhibition was demonstrated how the system of orchid cultivation. Where, orchid was maintained in the close house system that everything is set up, such as the temperature and humidity to maximize orchids to grow.

Many kind of orchid have been showed in this event, such as Paphiopedilum, Dendrobium, Cattleya, Dendrobium, and much more. And some country joined this event to show them orchid, such as USA, Australia, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Netherland, Germany.

The purposes of this event are to promote domestic and international technical exchanges, expand export sales opportunities for Taiwan orchid industry and become the most professional orchid circulation platform worldwide. The show demonstrated how a synergy of private industries, government agencies, research centers, and academic centers had worked together to develop a successful orchid-industry in Taiwan.
